Talent show peaks on screen

Published by Guardian on Mon, 03 Oct 2011

AFTER concluding auditioning in 11 cities across Nigeria, the third edition of the Peak Talent Show has begun screening on televisions. Started on Saturday to coincide with the Nigeria's 51st Independence anniversary celebration, the package would run for 13 weeks. The Peak Talent Show, an initiative of Peak Milk, creates a platform where young Nigerians can discover and develop diverse talents in music, dancing, singing or any amazing talent with entertainment value.Promising that the show would be bigger than ever, the Managing Director of Friesland Campina WAMCO Nigeria, Plc, Mr. Bob Steetskamp stated that the most important thing to the organization is helping to bring out talents in Nigerians. Also, the Senior Brand Manger, Jide Olorunfemi stated that the show is a brand activation platform that strengths Peak's emotional connection with consumers and further amplifies the Peak 'its in you' campaign theme of the organization.'Auditions for the season have been concluded in 11 cities around Nigeria; Abuja, Markudi, Enugu, Owerri, Benin, Asaba, Calabar, Uyo, Akure, Ibadan and Lagos. From these 11 cities grouped into 6 zones, 120 acts qualify for the zonal finals in Lagos.Four acts qualify for the National finals per zone. These 24 acts face judges and viewers vote and only the top 12 acts move to the Peak Talent House in November.'In the Peak Talent House, contestants will receive professional coaching to prepare them to participate in the weekly elimination shows where they will have the opportunity to show millions of viewers what they have learned in the house. Based on their performances, members of the public cast their votes. However, a combination of judges and SMS voting by viewers will lead to the emergence of the star prize winner at the end of the five weeks elimination shows. Judging criteria will be based on stage presence, entertainment value, talent and true potentials,' he said.Arguing that his company decided to come up with the show because it believes every Nigerian has talent yet to be developed and potentials yet to be unlocked, Olorunfemi maintained that the show is bigger now because this edition covers more cities, more airing stations and bigger viral platform; better because of the ground activations and more exciting because celebrities would be part of the show.He also disclosed that 40 million naira worth of prizes would be won in this season three with the star prize-winner getting N10million; N2million in cash and N8million for talent development. On hand to entertain guests at the media launch was the winner of the season two, teenage rapper, Kayode Odesanya popularly called Kida Kudz and four other entertainers who will be participating in the third edition. This was after a documentary on Kida Kudz was played, how he felt about winning and steps he had taken after emerging winner including the development programmes he had underwent so far and another documentary on how the 11 cities visited were toured hunting for talents for the final.
