Online Nigerian languages, culture academy takes off

THE teaching, learning and propagation of Nigerian languages and culture has taken a new dimension overseas as a New York, United States-based Nigerian, Mr Mazi Ogbonna has set in motion, a medium through which foreign-born and based Nigerians can learn and communicate in their mother tongues, by establishing the 'Native Tongue Academy.'The academy is an onlineoutfitwhere interested 'students' log in for lessons free of charge in Nigerian languages beginning, in the meantime, with Igbo and Yoruba. It is to be followed soon by others.Ogbonna told The Guardian in New York that he set up the academy to offer the lessons free of charge to demonstrate his passion for the propagation and sustenance of Nigerian languages and culture abroad which he lamented were going into oblivion.
