Evening newspaper debuts

A NEW newspaper, the Evening National Creed, is set to hit the newsstands in Lagos.At the helm of its editorial affairs is a veteran journalist, Sir Odafe Othihiwa, former General Manager of the Daily Times of Nigeria Plc and until recently General Manager, News Department of the African Independent Television (AIT).The editor-in-chief is also a former Nigerian Chief Correspondent of Radio Deutschevelle (Voice of Germany) and pioneer Nigerian Correspondent of South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), Johannesburg.The newspaper which will first be published three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) is edited by another experienced journalist, Adebola Owolola.According to Othihiwa, 'this segment of print media has become docile, sleepy and without imagination. That is why the evening newspapers and readers are gradually disappearing'.In its mission statement, the newspaper which is published by Slice and Dice Limited said it would provide a 'unifying platform for engineering hope and faith in the Nigerian Nation, a socially news content and opinion that will educate the minds and promote social and economic well being of its readers.
