Corruption: EFCC goes after former Nasarawa gov

Published by Tribune on Tue, 04 Oct 2011

Former governor ofNasarawa State, AlhajiAkwe Doma, is to be a guest of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) any moment from now, if signals emanating from the national office of the anti-graft commission are anything to go by.Indications to this emerged at the weekend amid reports that the commission had concluded investigations into the allegations of corruption filed against many of the former governors, as some of the allegations had been verified in the states so visited by the commission. The move by the EFCC to invite the ex-governor of Nasarawa State, Nigerian Tribune gathered, followed series of petitions filed against him by some indigenes, detailing many of his alleged infractions while in office. The former governor isallegedly being accused of financial impropriety, as one of the petitions against him queried the sudden disappearance of the sum of $113 million from the coffers of the state government during his tenure. The move by the EFCC is coming on the heels of a recent submission by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of the Federation, Mr Muhammed Adoke (SAN), that the anti-graft commission could go ahead to try four former governors for various offences they had allegedly committed while in office. In a chat with the Nigerian Tribune, the Director of Campaign of the ruling Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Isa Ilu, confirmed that petitions were written against the former governor, adding that the CPC had started compiling all allegations of financial scam during the past administration with a view to taking some actions.
