I never disobeyed Olubadan -Gbade Ishola

Published by Tribune on Tue, 04 Oct 2011

The controversysurrounding thealleged removal of Chief Gbade Ishola as the Jagun Balogun of Ibadanland, which is already a subject of litigation, has been taken to the media once again. In a reaction to Chief Lekan Balogun's allegation that he was removed for insubordination to the exalted throne of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Ishola said though, the matter was already in court for adjudication, he knew that he was caught in the cross fire in the cold war between the then Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala and the Olubadan, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade 1.He said: ''It is obvious that the illegal removal of Chief Gbade Ishola has nothing to do with insubordination but an extension of Olubadan's deep-rooted hatred and hostility towards the former governor, Chief Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala.''Insisting that at no time did he disobey the Olubadan, he said rather, it was Chief also, a high Chief and Osi Olubadan, who has refused to quit politics, that disobeyed the Olubadan. He posited that '' let us imagine that Senator Balogun one day becomes the Olubadan while still in active politics, he will then ascend the throne with the stigma of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart hanging on his neck. He will ordinarily be regarded as a PDP oba.''Chief Ishola insisted that for Senator Balogun to remain in politics was nothing but an insubordination to the Olubadan , adding that for any high chief to command the respect of the people in the land, he must stare clear of active politics. He said it was the attempt to insulate the high chiefs from the dirty language of politics that the Olubadan at the beginning of his reign directed all the high chiefs to quit politics, noting however, that Senator Balogun has refused to comply with that directive.
