Published by Tribune on Tue, 04 Oct 2011

Residents ofDopemu in Orile-Agege Development local council have called on the Lagos state government and state police command to beef up security at the Dopemu fly over.Community News gathered from residents that men of the underworld now operated daily in the area, especially in the morning around 5:30 a.m. when people are rushing to go to work and late evening around 9:30- 10:30 p.m.."The place is now a danger zone. Robbers now operate in the area-Dopemu fly over freely. People are now scared of going to the place and considering its strategic location, it is imposible to avoid passing through the place," Alhaji Alli Balogun of Agege told Community News.It was also learnt that the place was always dark and armed robbers were capitalising on the constant darkness in the area to forment trouble.Victims have lost valuables to the criminals. In some cases, some women have been raped in the place and some people have lost their lives. Some of the residents who spoke to Community News appealed to the state government to provide light to illuminate the environment. "You see, I believe criminals are just using cover of darkness to commit crimes and I believe that by the time there is constant light in the area, the criminal activities in the area would go down.Another resident, Alhaji Salawu Ayinla, told Community News that police should ensure constant patrol of the area to reduce crimes."I think something should be done urgently in the area. Police should ensure constant patrol of the area.
