NIA plans Construction Expo Centre

THE 22nd edition of Archibuilt organized by the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) ended recently in Abuja.During the opening ceremony held at the prestigious Abuja Sheraton Hotels and Towers, the Vice-President, Namadi Sambo who represented President Goodluck Jonathan point out that no meaningful development can take place in the country without the worthy contributions of architects while he pledged government support to any initiatives and activities that will deepen and promote an effective and qualitative building and construction industry in Nigeria especially in the area of affordable mass housing for the generality of Nigerians.NIA President , Olatunji Bolu explained that Archibuilt is a programme the institute has sustained for the past 22 years.He noted that through this programme, the NIA has provided a platform for access to information, technical data of building materials and construction technology that have influenced quality and cost efficient delivery of building projects in the country. Through this program the institute has continued to support government in policy evolution and formulation that have positively impacted the built environment in the country.Bolu further noted that the new thrust of Archibuilt is to encourage the transfer of skills and technology by producers of building and construction materials to our artisans and tradesmen through the practicaldemonstrations of processes and procedures for building and installations. Since such a drive is in obvious support of the present administration's transformation program, he called for the collaboration of relevant agencies of government towards the achievement of the Archibuilt's lofty goals. He thereafter sought government support for the allocation of5 hectares of land at the FCT for the development of a world class Construction Expo Centre.A well-attended 2-day workshop discussed the novel ways through Nigeria could attain a world-class built environment and cost efficient housing and infrastructural strategies.The event ended in a Gala Night where various participants were rewarded with awards for excellence, innovation and effectiveness of their products. This year's event featured sponsors in the different areas of the built environment sector such as Lafarge, Berger Paints, Nobel Carpets and BNL.
