Love is my shoes & my small light blue dress

Published by Guardian on Tue, 04 Oct 2011

MULTI-TALENTED actress and TV presenter, Amaka Anioji, is a combination of beauty and brain. The Isu Awaa, Enugu State-native filmmaker whose works include Friends, Young Erica, Succession of Needs and Seeing Distance, recently shifted from filmmaking to TV programming, where she explored her creative prowess to produce D Life Show and Married ' two TV drama series presently aired on Television Continental (TVC). Amaka, an Integrated Marketing Communication Consultant and Director Limeline Entertainment Company, tells DANIEL ANAZIA what fashion means to her.How was growing up like' It was fun, we didn't have much money but we had so much love. My mother is a very strict woman while my father is the soft type. He is that kind of father every child would always desire to have. However, it is the mixture of my father's softness and my mother's strictness that have made me what I am today. There were times we looked for food and there were times we also had a lot of better pieces of meat in the pot. At a particular time we didn't have a television set in our house, but we make our show around the house. The sense of contentment that we imbibed while growing up is reflecting in me and it has helped me to be what I am today. What is your definition of fashion'It is being comfortable in what you wear and what flatters your feature. It is what that projects your beauty and uniqueness; though our perception of beauty differs from one another. Your unique style My mood, the comfy and colour of the dress determines what I wear. I don't wear labels. Favourite colourI don't know if black is considered a colour, but it's sure my favorite. It complements my skin and keeps me out there. Favourite piece of clothing It's my small light blue evening dress, it's comfortable and sticks to me like a second skin. Favourite designerThere are quite a number of people that make my clothes, but I think Yinka is good. He is fantastic and has a good sense of creativity with superb cuts. He is anonymous, but very good at what he does. Most expensive fashion piece It's a shoe; I'm in love with shoes. Do you want the name and price tag' No'go figure it out on your own! The must-haves in your wardrobe this monthA pair of jeans trouser. What would you consider as fashion faux pax'Dressing inappropriately. How often do you improve on your wardrobe'Anytime I have real good money.Favourite beauty productNo favorites, I use products that are comfortable on my skin. Favourite foodVegetable soup served with eba, pounded yam or semovita. Turn onExcellence! It's not just doing things, but doing them super well. I love sincerity, no matter how stupid it maybe and I like people who aim at great heights. Turn offI hate people that nag and backstabbers. Choice travel/holiday destinationI have been to a few places, but I think Ghana for its calmness and tourism attractions ' the people, food and the facilities' is unique. It is a fun a place to be. Also, I like my village, Isu-Awaa. The scent of nature, the trees, stream, farmland, local fruits and food, especially Ukwa (breadfruit) and noise of the birds make it entrapping. I love being there during the festive period ' Xmas and New Year. Craziest thing ever done Answering your mischievous questions. If given a chance to change one thing about yourself what would it be'I guess it will be my hair. I know as an African I cannot naturally have the very long hair that I love, so, I guess I will change my short hair for a long one, but then I am super grateful for my short hair. How do you unwind'Hang out with my family and friends, read interesting literatures and see nice movies. I also listen to music and love basketball. InfluencesI have been inspired by a lot people such as my parents, Opera Winfrey, Genevieve, Tyler Perry and my elder sister, Chinyere. Philosophy of lifeI don't know if I can call them philosophy or couple of words that guides me. They are God can be everything to you or nothing, the choice is yours. Always prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. Lastly, love is in giving and not in taking.
