China is closing its Mount Everest base camp to tourists in a bid to tackle the trash collecting on the mountain, state media reported.The camp and the mountain will still be open to people with climbing permits, but China limited the permits to just 300 a year.Many more people visit the site as touristswith over 40,000 people visiting the site in 2015.The move comes amid fears the world's highest peak is turning into a trash heap: 300 tonnes of trash was removed by Tibetan authorities in 2018.China has closed its side of Mount Everest's base camp, a site visited by tens of thousands of people each year, to tourists as trash piles up on the mountain, according to state media.People with climbing permits will still be allowed to visit the site, state outlet Xinhua reported.
