Go and kill Guinea 'Siasia mandates Odemwingie 'As Mikel fined N750,000 for missing deadline

Published by Tribune on Wed, 05 Oct 2011

RETURNEE Super Eagles forward, Osaze Odemwingie was welcomed back into the squad by coach Samson Siasia with an order to him to destroy the boastful Syli National of Guinea in Saturday's Africa Cup of Nations in Abuja.Receiving the West Bromwich Albion striker back into the fold for the first time since March, Siasia gave Odemwingie the license to kill when the team confronts the Guineans in the must-win matchJust before the team's first training session yesterday, the West Brom striker was charged to pile pressure on the Guineans."We will like to say welcome back. We have missed you in the team and we are all happy to see you. We know how you always give everything when you play for your country, which is why Nigerians love you so much, and we know that you will do the same this weekend,'' said Siasia to the former Insurance of Benin forward."This is a very important game for us, because we have to qualify for the Nations Cup. We need goals and we know you can deliver that for us, so we will be counting on you and the rest of the team."Meanwhile,CHELSEA midfielder John Mikel Obi has been fined $5000(about N750,000) for missing yesterday's deadline to report to Nigeria's Super Eagles camp in Abuja. All players were expected to turn up by lunchtime yesterday, but Mikel called to inform officials that he would only come in on Wednesday as he needed time to attend to family matters.Coach Samson Siasia had overlooked Mikel for the 2008 Olympics over his attitude to the national team duty.Interestingly, Mikel was the first arrival for the build-up to the match against Madagascar in Antananarivo last month.Team officials were unimpressed with Mikel yesterday and have now handed down the fine to the star midfielder.Coach Samson Siasia has come down hard on team discipline since he took charge of the Eagles. In June, he slapped a two-match ban on Osaze Odemwingie after the England-based star walked out on the team in March. He only recently dropped Vincent Enyeama after the Lille goalkeeper questioned the travel plans of the team to Madagascar last month. The other 21 invited players trained yesterday afternoon at the training pitch of the Abuja National Stadium, led by captain Joseph Yobo.
