Published by Tribune on Wed, 05 Oct 2011

The Olukoyi of Ikoyi Community, in Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Yisau Oyetunji Otunla-Bantale I, has urged the people of the community to come home and add colour to the annual Osun Ikoyi festival which will hold this month.Oba Otunla gave the advice, while speaking with Community News on the importance of the festival at his palace. The community head stressed that, "the Osun Ikoyi festival was worshipped right from the days of my fore fathers, that is, since the creation of the ancient Ikoyi town".The first class traditional ruler added further that, "the Osun Ikoyi festival was done to cleanse the people from diseases that might wanted to dampen their health, and to flush out any epidemic that might wanted to erupt in the land"."This year's festival will come up between October 22 and 24, when all sons and daughters of the land will dance to the river side and worshipp the goddess of the river," the Olukoyi reiterated.Oba Otunla also pin point that the festival would be done as it also named after the Osun Osogbo festival because, to him that was ''the source of the river that we also worshipped here, the only difference is that we don't have an "arugba" instead, we used a woman that falls under the royal family that should carry the prepared sacrifice to the river".Oba Otunla therefore, appealed to the citizens of the ancient community to come home and develop the land in terms of providing social infrastrucural facilities as well as building small scale industries to ease the problem of unemployment among the residents of the community.
