Nigeria vs Guinea: Mikel joins Eagles 'We're not on revenge mission - Yobo

Published by Tribune on Thu, 06 Oct 2011

JOHN Mikel Obi joined up with the Nigeria squad yesterday morning to complete all 22 players called up by Samson Siasia.Midfielder Obi has been fined $5000 by coach Samson Siasia after missing Tuesday's lunchtime deadline. His arrival means Siasia trained yesterday afternoon with the full complement of his squad.Meanwhile,CAPTAIN of the Super Eagles, Joseph Yobo, has said that he and his teammates will not go on a revenge mission against Syli National of Guinea when both sides clash on Saturday in Abuja, in the last qualifier for the 2012 Nations Cup.Yobo in an interview monitored in Lagos, pointed out that the Eagles would only play to win so as to pick the Nations Cup ticket."Guinea is a good side no doubt. They beat us 1-0 in the first meeting. If we want to give excuses, there is a lot to say on that match. The game was cancelled before we played and so, we were distracted before we went to Guinea but as I said, that was not an excuse."We are at home now and we have a chance. We are not thinking of revenge but rather, how to win this game and pick the Nations Cup ticket. We give them due respect they deserve but we would come out in full force and play to the best of our ability," said Fenerbahce defender. Also speaking on the decisive game, Osaze Odemwingie said Guinea would get the treatment it deserves in Abuja on Saturday."We would force them to defend when they come because we are going to take the game to them. We would play more in their half. They were lucky to beat us in Guinea, they had only a chance which they utilised and they sat back in their defence for the remaining minutes. We are ready for the game," the West Brom forward said.
