Council suspends company's services over tax

THE complaints of resi-dents inNassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, over arbitrary taxation by a contracted firm, Isa Eliya and Company, engaged to collect revenue on behalf of the council, have forced the council to suspend the services of the firm, the chairman of the council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sani Gadanya, has saidIn a swift reaction, However, while addressing pressmen over the issue recently in Kano, Mr Effong Emenyi, Head of operations, Isa Eliya Company , Kano, said the council suspended the company with disregard to due process.Alhaji Gadany stated that the company 's service was suspended following series of anomalies and irregularities in the lodgment of local government funds.'We only suspended their services pending the outcome of a committee set up to look into the affairs of the company.Speaking in the same vein, the Treasurer of Nassarawa Local Government Council, Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Balarabe, added that series of complaints were brought against the company by the tax payers, alleging over taxation by the company allegedly paid into separate accounts not known to the council.Alhaji Balarabe disclosed that a revenue target of N120 million-200 million was given to the firm, but that it failed to meet the target.
