NEW Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Isa Bello Sali, has promised to focus on issues that have eluded his predecessors.He said in his effort to help the government realise its vision and transformation agenda and also ' a nation with a civil service that is focused, motivated and disciplined, special attention would be paid to success factors that have not been addressed.'Our motto will be making the civil service work for Nigerians,' Sali pledged.Also, he promised to consolidate on the reforms initiated by past heads of service and also ensure that they were implemented so as to realize the purposes for which they were intended.The areas he would also concentrate on are examination for appointments of permanent secretaries, the service delivery initiative christened SERVICOM, introduction of mandatory training and examination, introduction of the performance management system,Others are the institution of performance improvement fund at the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, the e-learning initiative and the introduction of the Staff Exchange Programme between the public service and the private sector.Sali, who took over from Prof. Oladapo Afolabi yesterday in Abuja, thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for the opportunity he gave him to serve as the nation's head of service.At the event, Afolabi had said in pursuit of his vision for the Nigerian Civil Service as one that would form a strong partnership with the private sector and in the process, facilitate national development with accountability and sustainable creation of jobs, a Senior Staff Exchange Programme (SSEP) was launched by his administration.
