There was commotion at Somoluarea of Lagos State, on Thursday, as angry members of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) stormed the party secretariat and protested against what they described as an imposition of candidate by the party leadership in the area. The protesters, mainly youths, as early as 8a.m., arrived at the party secretariat, displaying placards with various inscriptions, making both human and vehicular traffics to be labourious on the Ikorodu Road. Some of the youth stated that the protest was sparked off by the decision of the party leadership in the state and the local government to re-present the incumbent chairman of Somolu Local Government, Gbolahan Bagostowe. The youth also stated that the party leadership had earlier listened to the voice of the people by removing the incumbent chairman as the ACN chairmanship standard-bearer, but reversed the decision on Wednesday evening by re-announcing the incumbent chairman. The protesters, carrying placards with inscriptions such as: 'We want Democracy, not Baba Sope 'Bagostowe and What happened to the 2.8 million naira given to you by the state government to offset the burial expenses of those killed on March 12, 2011.'The youth particularly expressed their displeasure at what they described as 'negligence of security of life and property of residents of Somolu Local Government by the outgoing administration. They also called on the state House of Assembly to make public the outcome of investigation on the series of alleged misappropriationof fund, running to N400 million by the outgoing local government administration in Somolu.
