Piqued by the economic hardshipmany families encounter across the nation, the Namadi Sambo Victory Foundation, a Non- Governmental Organisation (NGO) poised to eradicate poverty and empower the underprivileged in the Nigerian society has commenced the distribution of food items, soft loans and other essential materials to various communities in the North.Chairman of the Foundation, Alhaji Ahmed Inuwa , who spoke after presenting poverty alleviation materials to hundreds of peasants, mostly women, at the Multi Purpose Hall Kaduna, said now was the time for wealthy individuals and corporate organisations to assist the government by providing succour and means of livelihood to millions of poor Nigerians.According to him, Nigerians should adopt the philosophy of a former US President that we should think of what we can do for our country and not what the country can do for us', especially for the rich and affluent , as many other fellow Nigerians out there were in dire need of help.During the public presentation of items at the Multi Purpose Hall, the beneficiaries could not hide their excitement as many went home smiling with enough food items to last them for months, while free interest loans were given to family heads to enable them start business of their own.A special aide to the Chairman of the NGO, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim, said that his boss, Ahmed Inuwa, found pleasure in giving back to the society and had committed millions to the course of helping humanity. He said Inuwa who is a relation of the incumbent Vice President, Alhaji Mohammed Namadi Sambo , started his philanthropic activities since time immemorial and had in recent times, intensified his activities and extended helping hands to communities far and near, religion or ethnic affiliation notwithstanding. He said the Namadi Sambo Foundation which is making impact currently in the North would soon extend its activities to the South-West and the other regions of the country, even as coordinators in the various zones were on top of the situation and would soon reach their people with materials, cash and other largesse from the foundation.'In the North for instance, various communities in Kaduna and Kano have benefited immensely from the foundation and before the end of year 2011, we hope to cover all state in the North. The foundation also assists taxi drivers, Okada riders and those in similar businesses.'The Chairman has empowered many by giving them Volkswagen Golf Cars, in addition to thousands who got motorcycles to boost their commercial motorcycle business.''The main objective is to make the teeming unemployed youths self reliant and less dependent on government,' he said.Governments cannot take care of everybody's need, the rich has to come in and assist especially here in the North where virtually all industries are no longer employing labour. The number of people that are out of work is always on the increase. They easily become frustrated and susceptible to the influence of drugs and radical ideologies.'The Namadi Sambo Foundation which he said, has nothing to do with the government or any of its agencies, is hundred percent privately driven and subsists on funds made available solely by Alhaji Ahmed Inuwa. He therefore called on similar individuals to emulate his boss and assist the poor in our communities, pointing out that such gesture would go a long way in eradicating not only poverty but also other social vices in our societies like militancy, incessant bomb blasts, armed robbery and drug abuse.
