The Ekiti State government has promised to give Erelu Adebayo Motherless Babies Home at Iyin in Irepodun Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state a facelift before Christmas.The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment, Mrs. Fola Richie-Adewusi, made the disclosure when she accompanied the wife of the state governor, Chief (Mrs.) Bisi Fayemi, on a visit to the motherless babies' home recently.Mrs. Richie-Adewusi expressed appreciation to the state government for approving the renovation of the home, saying the gesture was in consonance with the eight-point agenda of the state government.Chief (Mrs.) Fayemi had used the occasion of the visit, which was part of activities to mark the 15th anniversary of the creation of Ekiti State, to charge philanthropists in the state to come to the rescue of abandoned babies at the home.Mrs. Fayemi also toured the children's ward at the state University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.Mrs. Fayemi, who also visited the main theatre of the UTH, promised that the Ekiti Development Foundation (EDF) would bankroll the operation of 50 hernia patients in the state.The governor's wife made the promise when the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Femi Olugboji, stated that about 300 patients had shown interest in the free hernia operation put in place by the state government for 150 patients.Mrs. Fayemi, who launched the non governmental organisation a couple of months ago for the help of women folks in the state, stated that the organization would assist the government by sponsoring 50 patients out of the 150 patients that outshot the projection of the state government while flagging off the programme.She presented gifts items, including washing materials, food items and clothing to 12 child-patients at the UTH Children's Ward.Bemoaning the rate at which underage girls got impregnated in the country, the wife of the governor observed that the fear of funding of the babies usually tempted them to abandon their innocent children.She disclosed that since the inception of Governor Kayode Fayemi-led administration in the state, rate of child-dumping had reduced drastically, imploring ladies to shun the act and encouraged them to take their babies to nearest police station or motherless babies home for care.Erelu Fayemi disclosed that children adopted from Erelu Adebayo Children's Home by the Dutch and Swedish were doing well when she visited them recently, but lamented that the children were already lost to these countries because the children could only visit Nigeria as visitors.She, however, implored that the rich and philanthropists in the state should adopt children at the home.who were brought there on different circumstancesYam tubers, bags of rice, beans and other children needs were donated to the home by the wife of the governor on behalf of the state government.The matron of the home, Mrs. Caroline Aluko, however, appreciated the gesture of the wife of the governor, who was accompanied by wives of principal officers in the state cabinet.
