8-year-old homeless Nigerian chess champion no longer homeless, gets new house

The viral eight-year-old homeless Nigerian boy, Tanitoluwa Adewumi, who became an internet sensation for his chess skills, is no longer homeless.

According to a recent post on Instagram, Tani and his family now have a home, thanks to the generosity of many well-wishers.
Earlier on, Legit.ng reported the news of how a homeless eight-year-old Nigerian boy identified as TanitoluwaAdewumi, conquered the world of chess after winning the New York State Chess Championship. Adewumi won the top prize in his age category at the New York game.

He became an internet sensation and received quite the applause on the internet, so much that former US president, Bill Clinton, expressed his interest in meeting the young man. Well, the smart boy has not only gotten applause, but is no longer homeless thanks to many people who sent help in one form or the other.

Nicholas Kristof, the New York Times columnist who wrote about Tanitoluwa, took to Instagram to share the good news. He wrote: Our homeless chess champ, Tani, is no longer homeless. Thanks to the generosity of readers, Tani is in his new homeóand thanks to the generosity of Taniís family, many others will be helped, too. Thanks SO MUCH to readers for making this happen!

The little boy, who left Nigeria with his family in 2017, started playing the game of chess in 2018. His mother revealed that he only started learning and playing chess a year ago.
Adewumi revealed that his goal is to become the youngest chess grand-master in the world and also to break the world champion record.
