Published by Guardian on Fri, 07 Oct 2011

TO further consolidate on its ongoing expansion agenda across the country, management of Avis Nigeria has concluded plans to commence haulage business in 2014.According to the Managing Director of Avis Nigeria, Mr. Kolawole Ogunbajo, haulage is the third in the business line-up of the company, after car rental and fleet management.Ogunbajo explained in Lagos recently, that apart from the proposed haulage business, rent-a-car venture and fleet management were being expanded in partnership with Avis South Africa.Explaining further, Ogunbajo disclosed that the company has embarked on a comprehensive research on the haulage business, adding that the development is expected to bring a lot of innovations to the sector. He said the company presently has over 500 vehicles in its fleet, adding that they are renewed after two years. While assuring customers and potential customers of first class service, Ogunbanjo explained that the partnership with the South African firm was in the area of information technology designed to boost the operation of Avis through improved human capacity and workshop services. He said plans are also underway to build a well-equipped workshop in collaboration with private firms for prompt service of its vehicles outside Lagos.Ogunbanjo added that the company intends to be a major provider of fleet management service to most companies in Nigeria, adding that the rent-a-car has provided the required platform. He explained that to sustain the company's quality service, incentives are in place to regularly motivate staff.Avis Nigeria operates from more than 26 business points, which includes Lagos, Edo, Delta, Kano, Rivers, Cross Rivers, Enugu, Imo, Bayelsa, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, among othersSpeaking in Lagos during an interactive session with journalists, Ogunbanjo explained that the service, which is targeted at corporate organisations has recorded huge success as clients taking advantage of the fleet management service cut across banking, insurance, oil and gas, manufacturing, government agencies, telecommunications and the Nigerian Armed Forces, among others. He attributed the company's success to a vision of what he identified as building the best and fastest growing company within the business of car rental through continuous investment in its network, leading technology and, most importantly, its people.Ogunbanjo said, "Fleet management is easier compared to car rentals. We have fleet supervisors attached to every 15 vehicles at any point. The supervisors are responsible for co-coordinating, controlling and organising movement of the vehicles."With over 400,000 vehicles across the world, Ogunbajo said Avis is the leading global rental company. "We have over 415,000 vehicles worldwide at nearly 5,000 rental locations in over 160 countries and connected to the Avis wizard system, which is a computer-based 24 hours online reservation system linked to every Avis location in the world.
