APGA North-West leaders vow to resist plot against Umeh

Published by Guardian on Fri, 07 Oct 2011

LEADERS of the North West Zone of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) have condemned alleged attempt by some key members to factionalise the party. They, however, expressed their loyalty to the leadership under Chief Victor Umeh.At a press conference in Kaduna attended by the APGA Chairmen and secretaries from the zone, they pledged to frustrate anyone to hijack the party's leadership or factionalise it.APGA National Vice Chairman (North-West) zone, Dr. Mohammed Sagir Auwal, said that the region had decided to wade into the anti-party activities of some leaders 'based on the malicious pamphlets being circulated by an unknown group headed by one Onwuka Ukwa in which false statements and allegations were made against our national chairman and entire leadership of our party.'Auwal argued that an alleged statement by the dissident group, which claimed to be acting under a nine-man interim National Executive Committee (NEC) under a female politician from Kano, alongside some zonal leaders from other parts of the country had sacked Umeh.According to Auwal, while the members of APGA in the zone had dissociated themselves from the act, he said they were aware of the politician as a member of the party from Kano,' stressing that 'based on our knowledge Hajiya Rakad was vice presidential candidate of Citizens Popular Party (CPP) in the 2007 election, who later joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).''The Kano State chapter of APGA does not in any way recognise her as a member of the party and dissociates itself from the so-called interim under her leadership.'Those in attendance at the conference included the Chairmen of Jigawa State, Yaro Sadauna; Kebbi's, Basharu Nata'ata; Kano's, Ismaila Zubairu; Alhaji Ahmadu Dahiru, (Katsina); Chief Simon Onyema, (Kaduna); Zamfara's, Aminu Maikanti; Alhaji Atiku Ibrahim (Sokoto) and Assistant Zonal National Secretary, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi. They pledged to resist any attempt to destabilize the Party.
