Echoes Of Hope For Youths, As The Okohs Mark Silver Wedding Anniversary

Published by Guardian on Sun, 09 Oct 2011

ALL roads will, today, October 9, 2011, lead to the Cathedral of Advent, Gwarimpa, Abuja, for the silver wedding anniversary of Most Rev. Nicholas and Mrs. Nkasi Okoh. (The event, actually, fell on October 4, but for convenience, was shifted to today.)Expectedly, the crme de la crme of society will be in attendance. It is good and biblical to 'rejoice with those who rejoice' Rm. 12v15.Most Rev. Okoh is a good family man who believes that at every stage in one's life glory should be ascribed to God Almighty.During his thanksgiving service on October 10, 2010 following his elevation as Primate, at his village church, Owa Alero, Ika North East LGA of Delta State, he made it clear that for every little mercy we should acknowledge the finger of God in our lives. The fool might say in his heart, 'there is no God' (Ps. 14v1, 53v1) but, for the Primate, God exists; He is real and is involved in the affairs of men.To the glory of God, Most Rev. and Mrs. Okoh believe in practical Christianity. (James 1:27) says: 'Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world'.People sometimes celebrate anniversaries to raise fund subtly for personal use. Not the Okohs. They target the education of youths, as all proceeds (monetised) to be realised today, according to the General Secretary of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Ven. Mike Oluwarohunbi, will be channelled towards the building of a new Anglican Boys Grammar School in Abuja. No one can deny the rot in our nation's schools, and more so, the level of moral decadence in the wider society. No matter the denials, the gang rape of a helpless female (shamefully posted on the internet) in Abia State University Uturu, Okigwe, recently by five cultists, reveals the high loss of moral values in our homes The Primate believes now is time to act fast to avoid further dastardly acts. And so building the school is not only timely but is a welcome move in a nation in dire need of moral revolution. This I believe is in tandem with biblical the demand: 'train up a child in the way he should go...' Prov. 22v6.The step taken by the Primate and his wife to turnover all proceeds to setting up of a new school will go a long way in complementing President Jonathan's transformation agenda in the area of education and unemployment. Many graduate youths are on the streets battling with hunger, malnutrition, prostitution, kidnapping and violence. We know 'an idle mind is a devil's workshop'.Men and women of goodwill are therefore called upon today, not only to rejoice with the Okohs, but also to practically identify with them in this laudable project. 'He who wins a soul is wise' Prov. 11v30There's no better time to act than now.I salute the courage of the Primate in this bold initiative and sincerely wish him and his wife a golden marriage anniversary ahead.Long live Primate Nicholas and Mrs. Nkasi Okoh.Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
