THERE are many Christians, like Jacob today, who come to church, hear the word of God, clap and sing and seem very dedicated; however, when it comes to trusting God, they refuse to do so, preferring to use head knowledge instead. You might have been a Christian for several years without having had a divine encounter with God. Things will continue to remain the same in your life, if you do not change. You must review the things you need to change; else whatever you believe God for will never come to pass. One of the problems we have is that we negotiate God's instructions. We think it is just a matter of attaining a certain goal and so we deviate from what God has told us to do. It is not getting there that is important; it is how you get there. You must follow the principles as given by God, otherwise you are wasting your time. Certain things seem insignificant that are extremely precious. In 1 Kings 17:7-16, the Bible says 'Sometime later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. Then the word of the LORD came to him: 'Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.' So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, 'Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink'' As she was going to get it, he called, 'And bring me, please, a piece of bread.' 'As surely as the LORD your God lives,' she replied, 'I don't have any bread'only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it'and die.'' Elijah said to her, 'Don't be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD sends rain on the land.' ' She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the LORD spoken by Elijah.'In the story above, we read about the widow of Zarephath who just had a small amount of food, very insignificant if you think about it, but extremely precious to her nevertheless, because it represented the last meal for her son and her. God asked her to give it to Him' an insignificant gift to give to God, yet precious because it would result in tremendous increase in the long run.It is time for us to take a review of our lives. Why are we in the situations we are in today' Have we been doing things our own way' Have we been walking in disobedience to God's commands' Christians are meant to do daring things, which look impossible to ordinary eyes; that is where the miraculous comes to play. God does not need the things that you give to Him, but He wants to humble you. It is what you plant that you will harvest. It is therefore time to plant, so that you can harvest plenty.Pastor Seyi Ogunorunyinka is the General Overseer, The Promised Land Ministries, Solution Ground, Surulere, Lagos. pastorseyiogunorunyinka@gmail.com
