Published by Tribune on Mon, 10 Oct 2011

VICE-PRESIDENTNamadi Sambohas denied kicking off his 2015 presidential campaign, saying such reports were mischievous, false and cheap blackmail. The vice-president, who made the denial in Abuja, on Sunday, described as mischief makers, those who brought branded vehicle bearing his posters to the venue of the North-West zonal meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna, saying that their intention was aimed at perpetuating falsehood. He, however, noted that the rousing reception accorded him at the meeting on Saturday was normal.Sambo reiterated his commitment to ensuring the success of President Goodluck Jonathan's transformation agenda, insisting that he had not mandated anyone to start a campaign for the 2015 election. The PDP zonal meeting, he added, was not for presidential campaign or lobbying, adding that the objectives of the meeting were explicitly stated in the communique.A statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity) to the Vice-President, Mallam Umar Sani, said 'the insinuations making the rounds in the media that Vice-President Sambo may be preparing to contest for the presidency in 2015 smacks of mischief and is the figment of the imagination of the writers.'The statement added that no amount of falsehood or mischief would distract the vice-president and make him succumb to such cheap blackmail. It said Sambo had not mandated anyone to promote his course, as he was working with the president to deliver quality service to the people.
