Residents excited as govt begins repair of Ayobo-Ipaja road

Published by Tribune on Mon, 10 Oct 2011

Residents ofsome communities in Ayobo-Ipaja road in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State said they were excited that the government had commenced rehabilitation work on the road.A cross section of the residents at Ipaja-Ayobo, Oluwaga and Megida, among other communities, told reporters in Lagos that the intra-state road had been in a deplorable state for too long. They said the intervention was something to cheer about.Pa Muiz Ajagbe, a 90-year-old resident of Amule community in the area, said that he was very happy to see the road works taking place during his lifetime.``So, this road could be repaired in my lifetime' I had waited for the time the government would remember us and fix it. I am so glad that they are at least starting something on it,'' Ajagbe said.Mrs Adijat Komolafe, a trader at Ipaja market, said the commencement of work on the road had raised the hopes of traders for easy movement to communities in neighbouring states to buy and sell their wares.``This road has really affected our businesses. It is a link to Ado-Odo Ota in Ogun State where we buy most of our goods.``Some traders also find it very difficult to take their wares to Aiyetoro, Aparadija and other markets in the neighbouring state because of its very bad state,''she said.``Now that the government is working on it, we are hopeful that we will be able to transport our goods with ease soon and save some extra costs we incur as result of the bad state of the road,'' she added.Mr Michael Allison, a civil servant and resident of Abesan Estate, said the rehabilitation would bring to an end, the usual heavy traffic that motorists go through from Gate Bus Stop to Ipaja owing to the bad road.He commended the Lagos State Government for the intervention, urging them to ensure completion within the 18 months set for the project to save residents and motorists the hardship the bad road was causing them.
