GUS 8 enters new phase

THE first phase of Gulder Ultimate Search 8, Nigeria's first wholly local content and longest running reality TV show has ended with the qualification of three contestants for the Contest of Champions phase of the programme.The second phase is expected to commence next week, when the second batch of 10 contestants enter the Egbetua Ososo Forest jungle location of the reality TV show. This is based on the new format of GUS, which the organisers introduced when the show first hit TV screens on September 17, 2011.For GUS 8 the number of contestants was increased from 12 in 2010 to 30 in 2011. The contestants would enter the jungle in three batches of 10 contestants each. Seven of the 10 contestants in each batch would be evicted, leaving three from each group who will quality for the Contest of Champions phase.Furthermore, viewers for the first time in the show's history, get to vote back in an evicted contestant from each group. The three contestants would then compete for the 10th slot in the Contest of Champions; given that three contestants from each group automatically qualified for the final showdown.Lastly, Darey 'Art' Alade, joins Bob Manuel Udokwu as co-anchor. Bob Manuel hosted the show for a couple of years.Last night, Geraldine Obi, who had given an impressive performance since the show started, became the seventh contestant to be evicted. Her exit paved the way for Kelvin Durst, Anastasia Azike and Promise Ojiegbe to automatically qualify for the next phase ' the Contest of Champions phase.Those that have been edged out earlier in the contest were Kehinde Fadojutimi, Samuel Lazarus, Affram Oladunni, Franklin Inegbedion, Adu Elizabeth and Ilenre Alvin. Viewers however have till midnight today, to vote back in any of these contestants via SMS, the Gulder Facebook page or the Gulder Ultimate Search website.
