Pegba residents beg Ajimobi over road

Published by Tribune on Tue, 11 Oct 2011

RESIDENTS of Pegba Street, Idiosan in Ogbere Community of Ibadan, Oyo State, have expressed dissatisfaction over the bad condition of road in the community, saying the bad road has cut their link with other communities in the ancient city.According to Deaconess Sola Aderinto, while speaking with Community News, she explained that the road has been washed away two years ago, thus creating dangerous pot holes on the road which has also made the road impassable. In her words; 'the road has been bad for over two years now and we had informed the state government about it, but up till now, nothing has been done to put the road in good shape.'But there was a little relieve when the river under the bridge in the community was expanded for easy flow of water inside it in order not to destroy the bridge by a member of the Federal House of Representatives in Abuja, Dr Ibrahim Olaifa. However, that singular effort by the lawmaker did not stop the river from over flowing its bank which has contributed to the destruction of the road,' she stated.Speaking further, she said the August 26 flood disaster in Ibadan washed the asphalt on the road and made it impassable for both motorists and pedestrians.'The state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, came here three days after the flood disaster to ascertain the extent of damage of the road and promised to rehabilitate it that same month. But we have not seen any sign of rehabilitation since that time,' she lamented.Information gathered by Community News from some landlords and other residents of the area also showed that residents of the community have tried their best to rehabilitate the road, but incapacitated by paucity of fund.A member of the landlords association in the area, Mr Saka Odeyemi said, 'we are not enjoying the road at all because we always experience traffic jam every morning. The hold up very important to us because it is the road that people of Pegba, Adegbale, Ogbere communities often use to link other areas of Ibadan.'Not only that, any time there is a rainfall, the road would become impassable for the residents. We hereby appeal to Governor Ajimobi to help us rehabilitate the road on time because the suffering is too much,' he lamented.
