Group urges youths to shun violence

Alhaji Abubakar Yabo, the Secretary of Aliyu Magatakarda Advocacy Group (AMAG), has said that the group was mobilising youths in Sokoto State to eschew violence and thuggery via a faith- based approach.Yabo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto that the approach would enable the youths to contribute positively towards the peaceful conduct of the coming governorship election in the state.'Our primary target are imams and pastors, so that they can offer special sermons on the positions of Islam and Christianity on violence,' he said.Yabo said that the group would also utilise radio religious programmes to sustain the prevailing peace in the state.He stressed that no country can prosper in a chaotic situation, reiterating that his group would continue to sensitise youths in the state to refrain from all kinds of violence.'As democrats, we will do all that we can to mobilise our youths to participate actively in all the state's political processes,' he said.Yabo stressed the need to promote tolerance and understanding in Nigeria's political processes, in order to sustain the country's democracy.He also urged leaders of political parties to mobilise their followers to ensure a peaceful conduct of the forthcoming governorship polls in the state.
