NFF divided over Siasia 'Ghana has dug my grave -Siasia 'I will abide by NFF's decision -Siasia

Published by Tribune on Wed, 12 Oct 2011

THE technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, is already divided as it decides on Samson Siasia's future as head coach of the Super Eagles.''If we go by the letter of the contract, Siasia is gone,'' a member told Tribunesports yesterday.''He was mandated to reach the semifinal of the Nations Cup and the quarterfinal of the 2014 World Cup by the terms of reference in the contract we signed with the NFF Now he could not reach the Nations Cup not to talk of getting to the semifinal. So his case is decided', he explainedHowever, a section of the Committee believes the issue should not centre around Siasia as the role of by the players in the Nations Cup disappointment should also be scrutinised.Chairman, Technical Committee of the NFF, Chris Green, insists Siasia got the best of backing from the Federation and will also be given fair hearing tomorrow. He said that Siasia remained a creations of Nigerian soccer buffs an they all clamour for his appointment .Meanwhile,UNDER fire Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia is afraid the goalless draw recorded against the Black Stars of Ghana in yesterday's international friendly could have the nailed his coffin as far as his job is concerned. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to meet tomorrow to decide the fate of the coach following the Eagles' failure to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup, but the Bayelsa born tactician has already given up hope of retaining the job.The Nigerian side failed to record a win over the Ghananians in a match played at the Craven Cottage, home ground of premiership side, Fulham, a result Siasia said could eventually decide his fate. The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations after being held to a 2-2 draw by Guinea in Abuja last Saturday and that has sparked anger in Nigeria with many calling for the dismissal of the former international.Siasia according to Mtnfootball.com had stated that beating the Black Stars in the friendly game could help appease fans of one of the powerhouses of African football saying. "A win (against Ghana) will calm down what is going on. It will actually save my job," Siasia said.Meanwhile, midfielder, Mikel Obi who came on as a second half substitute for Joel Obi was booed by Nigerian fans as he entered the pitch.Meanwhile,SUPER Eagles coach Samson Siasia has said he would accept whatever decision the NFF come up with tomorrow Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) after his failure to qualify Nigeria for the Nations Cup for the first time in 25 years."It is not in my hands now. Whatever the NFF decide, we will accept. If they want us to stay, we will carry on rebuilding this team in the right way,' Siasia said."If they don't, we will say thank you and move on. That is the way football works."Siasia's future hangs in the balance after the NFF issued him an administrative query in their quest for answers. The Super Eagles gave up a late goal to draw 2-2 with Guinea on Saturday and miss out on qualification for next year's Nations Cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.Nigeria's coach, Samson Siasia says his team deserves all the insults thrown it way by fans after failing to qualify for next year's African Nations Cup.Siasia said his team is more devastated than the fans by this failure."We failed to qualify and that hurt the fans. We are also hurt, because as much as the fans wanted to see us at the Nations Cup, it pains us more than it pains them,' he said."We have young players who were looking forward to their first Nations Cup. We have experienced ones who wanted to return there to challenge again."We have found it hard to sleep because everyone is thinking about what happened."He insisted his Eagles could take comfort from the progress that has been made in a short time."In the few months we have been here, the team has grown younger, we are tactically stronger, we play the ball quicker than before, we create more than seven chances in every game and we have not failed to score more than two goals, except for the friendly against Argentina,' he argued."So this team is doing well. It was just a communication problem at the end. We thought we were going through at 2-1, but we were not sure if that was enough, and we didn't want to take any chances that's why we were pushing. Otherwise, we could have held on at 2-1."
