Four-term senator wins at Kano election tribunal

Four-term senator,Hayattou Gwarzo, ofthe Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), representing Kano North Federal constituency, has won a case filed against him at the election Tribunal sitting in Kano by the candidate of All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP) Hon. Barau Jibril.Honourable Jubril of ANPP filed a petition before the tribunal, alleging that Gwarzo did not secure the highest number of votes at the parliamentary election.He also informed the tribunal that the voting exercise recorded multiple voting, invalidation of valid votes cast in favuor of the ANPP, while he alleged that unregistered voters and minors participated in the voting exercise.According to him, officials attached to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in an alleged connivance with agents of the Peoples expunged valid votes cast in favor of the petitioner.Hon Jibril prayed the court to award the expunged votes to him, and urged the tribunal to expunge invalid votes collated in favour of the respondent and declare him the winner of the April 9 2011 polls.The ANPP and its defeated candidate presented 15 witnesses before the tribunal to give testimony in a bid to establish their allegations before the court.
