Ise-Orun women commend council over empowerment programme

Published by Tribune on Wed, 12 Oct 2011

Community dwellers in Ise/Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State have lauded the authorities of the council for organising a skills acquisition programme in which about 20 women were trained in various skills. The women, drawn from the communities across the local government area, were trained in soap-making, wick-making for kerosene stoves and other skills in a programme tagged 'Women Empowerment' by the council.Wife of the chairman of the council, Mrs. Chinyere Ajayi, in her speech, pointed out that the training was part of the efforts of the council to complement Governor Kayode Fayemi's agenda on women empowerment and enhancement of the living standard of the rural dwellers.According to Mrs. Ajayi, 'women can only take their rightful position in the society if they are economically empowered,' adding that 'the best way to economically empower women is through skills acquisition and I believe that this seminar would be of benefit to the participants if they put the skills they have acquired into practice.'Two of the participants at the seminar, Mrs. Bunmi Ajayi, a caterer from Odo-Ise and Mrs. Fatima Eleja from Ofigba, expressed gratitude to the local government chairman, Mr. Femi Ajayi, and his wife for organising the training 'and for their immense contributions to the development of the council.'They also suggested to the caretaker administration in Ise/Orun Local Government Area that the training be organised twice in a year in order to enable more women in the local government area to be captured in the programme.
