Indigenous coaches best suited for Nigeria -Oliseh

FORMER Nigeria international, Sunday Oliseh, says the Super Eagles are better handled by an indigenous coach, as the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, decides on the future of Samson Siasia today in Abuja.Siasia, 44, has come underfire especially from Nigerian fans for failing to guide the Super Eagles to the 2012 Afcon but Oliseh says though the NFF has a final say on Siasia, yet he would want the issue to be handled carefully.The 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner pointed out that if the NFF goes ahead to replace Siasia, then his successor must have plans to suit the national team."If the FA must appoint then they must decide on what direction the team must take'', Oliseh told brilafm.''If we must play physical football then we must bring in a German coach but if we must play like we think we should, then we must stick to a Nigerian coach or, on the alternative, a Dutch coach will do since they build their game more on technique," he added .Oliseh was also quick to add that, "I'm not an apostle of a foreign coach because it hasn't really worked for us in recent times anyway."The former Juventus midfielder also proffered that Nigerian football needs knowledgeable individuals from bottom to top for the development of the sport.He believes that having "the right people in the right places" will bring about successes like he and his colleagues enjoyed in the 1990s."If you must have kids, you must have good parents. So if we want to have players like Finidi George, Taribo West and (Rashidi) Yekini, who scored wonderful and important goals then we must have the right coaches backed up by the right officials to run our football. All of this go hand in hand," he said.Nigeria will miss out on the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon for the first time in 25 years.
