Oyo ACN lambasts Akinjide over attack on Ajimobi's govt 'Alao-Akala's critics shortsighted -Aide

Published by Tribune on Thu, 13 Oct 2011

The Action Congressof Nigeria (ACN) inOyo State has lambasted the Minister of State for Federal Capital Terriroty (FCT), Chief Jumoke Akinjide, over a statement credited to her that the people of Oyo State had regretted voting for ACN in the 2011 general election. The party, in a statement issued by its state publicity secretary, Mr Dauda Kunle Kolawole, described the statement as an act of irresponsibility, insincerity and insensitivity.'Rather than regretting voting for ACN, it is actually the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government that the people of the state are having eternal regret electing. Indeed, it will be very hard for the people of Oyo State to forget the unprecedented level of violence, looting and brigandage unleashed on the state for the eight years that the PDP government ruled,' Kolawole said. This, according to him, had further been confirmed by the ongoing arraignment of former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for looting the state treasury to the tune of over N25 billion.'Even while in government, several of Alao-Akala's commissioners and aides were regular guests of the EFCC, answering questions over the looting spree in Oyo State,'' the ACN spokesman said.He wondered what could have made the people of the state regret having an ACN government in place, when indeed, the Abiola Ajimobi-led government had, within the short period it came on board, demonstrated its readiness to turn the state around and restore its pacesetting status.Meanwhile, those who may be rejoicing over the arraignment of Alao-Akala have been described as shorsighted. In a release signed by the aide of the former governor, Mr Dotun Oyelade, the sober calm that enveloped the state since the debacle started last Thursday was an indication that this clime called for sober reflection. The statement described as uncharitable and hasty, the remark credited to some Oyo State government officials, adding that it was reckless to hang a man, even when he had not utter a word of defence at the appropriate quarters.
