It's World Sight Day

AS humanity marks World Sight Day, Standard Chartered will host fundraising events across its 70 markets this week as part of its commitment to raise $100 million for 'Seeing is Believing' ' its partnership with leading eye-care NGOs to help eliminate avoidable blindness.Standard Chartered Nigeria would hold its seventh consecutive 'Walk for Sight' to raise funds for 'Seeing is Believing' on November 19th, 2011.Standard Chartered announced last month at the 2011 Clinton Global Initiative Yearly Meeting that it would raise a further $63 million to build sustainable eye-care services across Asia, Africa and the Middle East, almost trebling its fundraising for the prevention of blindness from 2003 to date. By 2020, the bank will have raised $100 million for Seeing is Believing globally.Since 2003, Seeing is Believing has impacted 25 million people globally, helped fund 2.78 million sight-saving cataract operations and facilitated the distribution of medicine to treat Vitamin A deficiency and river blindness for 3.37 million people.In 2010, the bank raised in excess of $100,000, enough funds to restore sight to over 3,500 people with cataract-induced blindness.
