Capital One Cup 2014-15 3rd-Round Draw: Full List of Fixtures and Dates

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 28 Aug 2014

Several top Premier League clubs fell at the first hurdle of the 2014-15 Capital One Cup, with much attention going to Manchester United's 4-0 loss at the hands of MK Dons in Round 2.Aston Villa, Queens Park Rangers, West Ham United, Burnley and Leicester City were other Premier League casualties in a wild second round of League Cup action. The draw for the third round was made immediately after the final matches ended on Wednesday:All ties will be played in the week starting on September 22, 2014.The most eye-popping tie is without a doubt the Premier League clash between Arsenal and Southampton. With plenty of lower-tier teams still in the competition, the Gunners will no doubt have hoped for an easier opponent than the Saints.Southampton haven't enjoyed the greatest start to the 2014-15 Premier League season, and their Round 2 performance against Millwall wasn't as convincing as they would have hoped.Ronald Koeman still has a talented squad at his disposal, however, and on their day, the visitors should present the Gunners with a stiff challenge at the Emirates.Swansea will host Everton in what should be another highly entertaining match between clubs from the highest level of English football. The Welsh side have never beaten Everton in a competitive fixture, but their start to the 2014-15 season indicates that could change this campaign. The Toffees have struggled putting teams away so far this season, but at their best, they're one of the best attacking teams in the Premier League.A trip to Wales is never easy, however, and with the derby against Liverpool being their next fixture, an upset could be on the books.Chelsea will host Bolton Wanderers, and as shared by this fan blog dedicated to the club, the Blues have history on their side:Manchester City and Liverpool were also given relatively easy home fixtures, against Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough, respectively. Bleacher Report's Karl Matchett liked the draw from the Reds' perspective:Crystal Palace will host Newcastle United, and Stoke City will travel to Sunderland in the remaining Premier League matchups. The most exciting fixture not featuring Premier League teams will likely be the clash between Bradford City and Milton Keynes Dons.MK Dons recorded perhaps the greatest win in their short history by beating Manchester United 4-0 in Round 2, while Bradford played out an intense rivalry match with Leeds United, winning 2-1.Leeds took the lead late in the match only for Bradford to score twice in quick succession, and after 10 minutes of extra time, the hosts had recorded their first win over Leeds since 1986. As shared by Footy Accumulators, pandemonium followed:With the large number of Premier League sides being drawn together, the 2014-15 Capital One Cup looks like it will give a number of teams from the lower divisions a chance to make a deep run in the tournament. Most of the top clubs were given favourable draws, although Arsenal and Everton will need to be wary of their Premier League opposition.Follow @ReverschPassRead more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
