Giwa, NFF factional president, assumes duty 'His election cannot stand 'Sec Gen

Published by Tribune on Thu, 28 Aug 2014

Newly elected factional president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ambassador Christopher Giwa on Wednesday assumed duty at the nation's football headquarters with his board members, vowing to reconcile a divided house with a view to carrying everbody along, fast tracking movement to the new NFF secretariat, the Sunday Dankaro House. The Jos-born football chieftain, who was approached by newsmen as soon as he alighted from his vehicle to know if he was sure that world football governing body FIFA will not take exception to development leading to his emergence said: 'The issue of FIFA being a compulsory observer is not part of the statutes governing our elections.'As soon as he entered the office, a prayer session was held. Alhaji Sani Mohammed Fema from the North East took the Moslem prayer, while Giwa himself took the Christian prayer. After that, he went round to inspect the Glass House, especially the burnt area. One intriguing aspect of Wednesday's proceeding was that some members of the management were not around. The Assistant Director Communications, Ademola Olajire, as well as other departmental heads were absent. However, Giwa interfaced with some members of staff. When told that Barrister Musa Amadu, the Secretary General told the press on Tuesday night that the election that produced him as president was a sham, a brow formed on his forehead and said: 'I am surprised to hear that, and this was the man who called the Congress to order, let's wait and see.'The high point of Wednesday's meeting was the inaugural board meeting that lasted hours. Those inattendance were Chief Obinna Ogba, fist vice-prsident; Chief Effiong Johnson, Farouk Yarma, North East, Felix Obuah from Rivers State, Sani Mohammed, Dele Ajayi, Adama Yahaya and Sherif Inua. Others who were elected but were not part of the meeting on Wednesday were Muazu Suleiman, Felix Anyansi-Agwu and Deji Tinubu. After the board meeting which rose in the evening, Giwa told newsmen, that his immediate task now is to reconcile the divided house. 'I pray to God to give me a listening ear and a humble heart to run the nation's football,' he said.Giwa's election can't stand 'NFF Sec-GenBarrister Musa Amadu, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Fedration (NFF) says the election that brought the current board on will certainly be overturned as it is not democratic.Amadu, who was not at the Glass House on Wednesday when the new factional president of the NFF Ambassador Chris Giwa assumed duty said: 'I don't want to be part of an election that is not clear, I don't think we should be in a hurry to hold election that will be overturned.' Amadu spent the better part of Tuesday with men of the Department of State Security, with Alhaji Aminu Maigari and Barrister Chris Green, but was released to supervise the congress. He was there when the Sports Minister Dr Tamuno Danagogo addressed the congress. But as soon as the election session came up, he left the hall to the consternation of stakeholders. Asked why he was whisked away from the Chida Hotel venue of the congress, Musa replied: 'It's all part of the routine, as a government organisation, we were called to clarify issues to ensure security of life and property in respect of the congress. However, we were well treated, one is no longer a stranger to this kind of invitations, it comes with the job.' Amadu was to leave the venue of the congress in Chida Hotel and head for Bentley Hotel where other aggrieved members otherwise known as the Maigari group held their own congress.According to Amadu, the congress at Bentley Hotel had 40 members from the list of 44 and that was more than a quorum. 'So all decisions taken there are binding, whatever anybody thinks, elections have been fixed for September 4 in Abuja,' he said.
