Onigbedu villagers storm Amosun's office

Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday, summoned the Olu of Onigbedu, Oba Matthew Ajibulu, over allegations of ritual and misconduct by his people.The governor gave the directive when residents of Onigbedu community in Ewekoro Local Government Area staged a protest to his office and the state House of Assembly.Leading the protesters, Onigbedu Community Development Association (CDA) Chairman, Lukman Adebare Kazeem, said the community wanted the state government to check the excesses of the monarch.'We have decided to inform everyone of what we are facing. Our oba has brought problem to the community. He has inflicted hardship on us and severed our relationship with neighbouring towns and investors.'He also carries out ritual activities and has gone ahead to build Oro shrine in the centre of the community after the CDA kicked against it.'Onigbedu community wants the government to be aware and rescue us,' kazeem stated.Another protester, Adetola Isiwatu, said: 'It's on record that former Governor Gbenga Daniel imposed Ajibulu on us. He promised us a peaceful reign, but he is not keeping to the promise.'He now threatens everyone in the community and intimidates the chiefs and baales.'She further said that the community was tired of the oba's antics and wanted the state government to intervene.Responding on behalf of Governor Amosun, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftiancy Affairs, Honourable Muyiwa Oladipo, commended the protesters for their peaceful conduct.Oladipo said the government was concerned about happenings in the rural areas of the state.'I must commend you for the peaceful way you conducted the rally. We urge you to remain law-abiding citizens,' he said.He said the government would immediately step into the crisis to ensure the safety of the people.'On your grievance, be rest assured that Oba Ajibulu will be called upon to come to the governor's office and we will also hear his own side of the story. And we assure you, we will sort it out amicably.'He, however, immediately directed the Director for Chieftaincy Affairs of the ministry to invite Oba Ajibulu to the governor's office.Receiving the protesters at the House of Assembly, the clerk of the assembly, Mr Muyiwa Adelopo, said the lawmakers would deliberate on their grievances when they return from recess.Adelopo, however, encouraged the protesters to be civil and peaceful for the growth of the community and state in general.
