Morocco now to host CAF U-23

NIGERIA yesterday failed in its bid to win the hosting rights of CAF U-23 African Championship as the Confederation of African Football, CAF, announces Morocco as host of the event.Following the withdrawal of the Egyptian Football Association from the hosting of the CAF U-23 African Championship due to understandable circumstances two days ago, Nigeria had fancied its chances of hosting the 8-Nation round robin which will be used to pick Africa's representatives for the football event of the London 2012 Olympics.Although no formal bid was sent to CAF from Nigeria, the body yesterday in a statement said the Championship has been given to Morocco.'' CAF hereby confirms that the CAF U-23 Championship will now be held in Morocco from November 26 to December 10 with the top three teams qualifying for the London 2012 Olympics and the fourth placed team taking on a side from Asia in a play ' off'', said the statement.The tournament will be hosted in Marrakech and Tangiers as main venues, with additional venues being Rabat and/or Fes.
