New FCT Environment Boss Reads Riot Act To Stakeholders

Published by Guardian on Sun, 16 Oct 2011

NEWLY appointed Director of Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Mr. Isa Shuaibu, has read the riot act to AEPB workers, Abuja cleaning contractors and other stakeholders, warning them not to waste energy and resources congratulating him on his new job.According to the former Director of FCT Archives and History Bureau, what he needs most are prayers, firm commitment to duty and hard work in order to deliver a cleaner, healthier FCT.He spoke yesterdy at his Central Business District, Abuja office while addressing management, staff and Abuja cleaning contractors. He said: 'If you have been on the job and you have seen it all, you will know that when you are given such a responsibility, there is no need to congratulate you. Definitely, what you need is prayers because it's a tough job. As I have always said, it's a burden placed on my back and whatever I can do to surmount that burden, I will. That was why I kept emphasising that nobody should congratulate me, but rather sympathise with me in terms of the burden placed on my neck.'The expectations of the public on me, based on past antecedents, have made it even more difficult for me. But I know, and I'm determined, that there is nothing that is impossible.'Apart from heading the Archives and History Bureau of FCT, Shuaibu had previously been the Director of the Development Control Department and Parks and Recreation Department, both in the FCT.On his new assignment as boss of the environmental agency, he said he is not unmindful of the fact that strategies he employed in similar tasks in the past may no longer work due to the fast changing demographic realities of the nation's capital and their consequences on the environment.
