Investors stake N190.5b on FGN bonds in one week

FEDERAL Government of Nigeria (FGN)'s bonds, last week, recorded aturnover of 225.82 million units worth N190.5 billion in 1880 deals,an improvement over198.38 million units valued at N180.3 billion exchanged in 1624 deals, during the week ended Thursday, October 6.At the end of transaction for the week, themost active bond when measured by turnover volume,was the 10 per cent FGN July 2030 (seventh FGN Bond 2030 Series 3) with a traded volume of 78.9 million units valued at N63 billion in 726 deals.This was followed by the four per cent FGN April 2015 (7th FGN Bond 2015 Series 2) with a traded volume of 69.8 million units valued at N54.3 billion in 551 deals.Information obtained from the Nigerian Stock Exchange explained that sixof the available 27FGN Bonds were traded during the week compared with sevenin the preceding week.Though there wereno transactions through the stock market in the Federal Government Development Stocks, State Government Bonds and Industrial Loans/Preference Stocks sectors, the equities sector recorded aturnover of 1,305.86 million shares worth N11.48billion in 18,940 deals.The banking sub-sector was the most active during the week when measured by turnover volumewith 821.35 million shares worth N6.36 billion exchanged by investors in 10,404 deals.Volume in the banking sub-sector was liftedby activity in the shares of United Bank For Africa Plc, First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc.Trading in the shares of the four banks accounted for 620.42 million shares, representing 75.54 per cent and 47.51 per centof the sub-sector's turnover and total volume traded during the week respectively.Other Financial Institutions sub-sector, boosted by activity in the shares of Crusader Nigeria Plc, followed on the week's activity chart with a turnover of 161.26 million shares valued at N80.81 million in 46 deals.On the price movement chart, theNSE All-Share Index depreciated by 355.17 points or 1.8 per centto close on Friday at 19,869.85 while the market capitalisation of the 189 First -Tier equities decreased to N6.297 trillion.The NSE-30 Index depreciated by 13.11 points or 1.5 per centto close at 880.67. In the previous week,ASI and NSE-30 Indices appreciated by 0.71 per cent and 2.06 per cent respectively.All four sectoral indices depreciated last week compared with two thatappreciated during the previous week.
