Team Fidelity will continue to dominate Bankers Games, says MVP

Published by Guardian on Mon, 17 Oct 2011

THE Overall Best Athlete and Most Valuable Athlete at the just concluded Bankers Games, Ijeoma Maureen Arum, has declared that Team Fidelity would continue to dominate the event, just as she applauded the management of Fidelity Bank for giving the team the support it needed to win the 2011 edition of the tournament. Atum, an Information Technology member of staff of Fidelity Bank won three medals to give Team Fidelity the edge over other Nigerian banks, topping the table with eight gold, 12 silver and four bronze medals. The bank also won the title last year.Speaking with The Guardian during a reception organized by the bank's management in honour of the victorious team in Lagos, Arum said that participation in the Games had reawakened her interest in sports, which she dumped after her secondary school education on the advice of her parents. She said: 'I am so excited for the opportunity to take part in sporting activities once again. I did sports from my primary and secondary school days, but when I gained admission into the university, my parents advised me to stop it so as to concentrate on my studies. The Bankers Games is a way of taking me to area I am so familiar with.'Speaking further, Arum, who won three medals - in chess, table tennis and scrabble, praised the Games' organiser, MediaVision, for making it possible for her to return to sports. It would be recalled that the management of Fidelity Bank rolled out red carpet in honour of overall champion of the 2011 Bankers Games in Lagos recently with theManaging Director, Reginald Ihejiahi, announcing cash rewards.
