Gbade Ogunwale, AbujaThe leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has initiated moves to appease former President Goodluck Jonathan and a former governor of Kogi State, Ibrahim Idris.The moves are geared towards reconciling Jonathan with the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, who were torn apart by the emergence of Senator Diri Douye as the partys Bayelsa governorship candidate in the November 16 election.Similarly, former governor Idris has been at loggerheads with the Kogi chapter of the PDP, including the partys governorship candidate in the November 16 election, Mr Musa Wada.While Jonathan is believed to have parted ways with Dickson over alleged marginalisation of his loyalists by the camp of the Bayelsa governor, Idris is said to be unhappy that his son, Abubakar, lost the PDP ticket to Wada.The PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus,on Friday named the immediate past President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, as chairman of a five-man reconciliation committee charged with the task of reuniting Jonathan and Idris with the PDP chapters in Bayelsa and Kogi.Read Also:Edo 2020: Battle for soul of PDPWith this appointment, Saraki and his team will be shuttling between different locations in Bayelsa and Kogi to meet with Jonathan, Idris and other key stakeholders in the two states.Similarly, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, will be leading the partys campaign in Bayelsa State as chairman of the campaign council. Benue State Governor, Mr Samuel Ortom, was named as his deputy.Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is chairing the campaign council for Kogi State, with Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State as his deputy.While inaugurating the three committees at the partys Abuja secretariat, Secondus cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies against derailing democracy in the two states through acts of connivance.The party chairman charged them to ensure fee, fair and violence free elections, saying it is the only way to enthrone peace in the two states.The only alternative to the rule of law is anarchy. When you deny the people the right to vote, you generate crisis. The federal government under the APC has been responsible for crises across the country.We won the 2019 presidential election but we were robbed of victory and I can assure them that one day, they will reap what they sowed. Nigerians know that the APC governorship candidates in Bayelsa and Kogi are no match for our candidates.Also speaking after the inauguration, Saraki said winning the elections in Bayelsa and Kogi starts with reconciliation of the different camps. He promised that his committee would ensure that political differences in the two states were resolved before the election.Makinde called on the electorate in the two states to press the political and electoral reset buttons on election day to ensure that the PDP carried the day. He assured that Idris would be brought back into the fold.Governor Bala Mohammad, who is leading the team for Bayelsa, said he was banking on his cordial relationship with Jonathan to ensure a lasting reconciliation.Describing Bayelsa as his second home, the governor said for him, after God, its Jonathan, stressing that the former President was not only his boss but also his benefactor.
