We are yet to feel impact of Fashola

Published by Tribune on Mon, 17 Oct 2011

Residents ofArowolo andSegun Akinola streets in Abule-Egba area of Lagos have lamented that they are yet to benefit from Governor Raji Fashola administration.Community News visited the area as a result of invitation from some community leaders about their plight, especially threat to lives and property as a result of flooding. The area lacks good drainage, hence the people were always in fear whenever it rained.A community leader who spoke with Community News under condition of anonymity, appealed to the state government to do something urgent to save the people from being washed away by flood. The community leader complained that the local government officials were insensitive to the plight of the people, as various complaints lodged at the council office in Ifako Ijaye were yet to receive the blessing of the government.'We are yet to benefit from the present administration. Our roads are in bad shape. It is unfortunate that about three roads that lead to this community are not tarred. We, at the community level, contributed money to hire caterpillar to do grading once in a while to make the streets motorable. We are not getting the effect of Fashola in this community. Our local council, Ifako Ijaye, is not helping the matters, as the officials are not always ready to do anything for the people. The only time we usually see them is whenever they want to collect money. We are using this medium to appeal to the state government to focus attention on us too. We voted for him in 2007 and 2011, so we should also benefit from his government'When Community News visited the area, the effect of downpour was noticeable, as some residents were trying to repair some of the property destroyed by flood.Apart from flooding caused by poor drainage system, the area also lacked good roads, and as a result of this, most motorists in the area preferred to pack their cars at neighbouring streets while they trek to their houses.'It is terrible, we no longer go home with our cars. The practice now is to park your car somewhere and trek home,' a resident told Community News.
