AVIATION: MARK ON THE MARK

WHILE inaugurating the Senate Committee on Aviation recently, the Senate President David Mark, brought to the fore the rot in the aviation sector, saying that no single airport building in the country was up to standard and that no economy in the whole world could boast of being stable when its aviation industry is in shambles. He said there was a need for a total overhaul of the aviation industry.AS usual, Mark was on his mark. There can hardly be any doubt regarding the veracity or validity of Mark's observations. It is a common experience to have herds of cattle on runways in Nigeria and the infrastructure of the airports in Nigeria compared to other even poorer countries is appalling.BUT for the waning credibility of Nigeria's leadership, people are wont to take Senator Mark seriously, if they don't see his remark as veiled marching orders for the Senate Committee on Aviation to generate contracts for bringing Nigeria's deteriorating airports up to standard. Even the cynics are at work already, wondering how the Senate president could see the rot in the aviation without seeing the rot in the Senate, indeed the rot in the whole country. Or isn't the rot in the aviation industry merely a reflection of the general debilitating social gangrene
