100 year old completes marathon

BRITAIN'S Fauja Singh has become the first 100-year-old to complete a marathon in Toronto, Canada.It took Singh more than eight hours to complete the race, and he was the last competitor to finish, but it was still enough to see him add to his huge collection of records.Singh, who completed the first of his eight marathons as an 89-year-old, has a personal best of five hours, 40 minutes, set back in 2003, making him the world record holder at the distance for a man aged 90 or over.Singh also holds eight sprint bests in his age category which he set just last week. The centenarian only had to complete the distances to set the record - nobody his age has posted a timed mark in the past - but did so to claim a host of records.The Indian born Brit was delighted with his performance in Toronto as he beat his targeted time."Beating his original prediction, he's overjoyed," his coach and translator Harmander Singh said."Earlier, just before we came around the (final) corner, he said, 'Achieving this will be like getting married again."He's absolutely overjoyed, he's achieved his lifelong wish."Singh, born in India in 1911, received a telegram from the Queen for reaching his 100th birthday in April, but only took up running seriously at the age of 88.Singh has now said he would like to participate in the torch relay for the 2012 London Games.
