Islamic fundamentalists kill Borno lawmaker

BORNO State, again,boiled on Sundayevening, when suspected Islamic fundamentalists reportedly shot dead a lawmaker representing Konduga constituency in the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Modu Bitumbe.Nigerian Tribune gathered that the deceased was killed in front of his house while relaxing, at Gomari area of Maiduguri.The development threw the vicinity into confusion, as people scampered for safety.Both the police and the military task force deployed to end unrest in the state confirmed the killing of the lawmaker.The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Simeon Midenda, while confir-ming the incident, said 'the pattern of the killing is similar to the Boko Haram attack.'Also, Colonel Victor Ehhaleme, the head of operations of military task force, confirmed the killing.Meanwhile, the remains of Alhaji Bitumbe was buried on Monday at Maiduguri Central burial ground.The funeral ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Modu Goni, who led other members of the legislature.Bitumbe was elected into the legislature on the ticket of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last April election and was, until his death, the chairman of the House Committee on Information.
