70% Zamfara teachers not qualified 'Gov

THE Zamfara Stategovernor, AlhajiAbdulaziz Yari, has said 70 per cent of primary school teachers in the state are not qualified.He made the disclosure in Gusau, while kicking off the 2011 teachers development training programme, organised by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in Gusau, on Monday.Governor Yari said it was a monumental challenge, adding that the available statistics that 30 per cent of primary school teachers were qualified to teach across the over 1,120 primary schools in the state was not encouraging.He said the state government had taken steps to revolutionise the sector, considering the need of professional training among the teachers in the state.'This professional development training was designed to improve the professional skills of teachers and build their capacity, so as to effectively discharge their responsibility with regards to child development, thereby stemming the falling standard of education,' the governor said.
