Kebbi govt disburses N4bn relief materials to 300 flood victims

The Kebbi State Government has disbursed relief materials valued at about N4 billion to residents of the 350 villages in the state affected by flood last year.The Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu, made the disclosure in Birnin Kebbi when the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Water Resources, Alhaji Aliyu Patigi, led a fact finding mission to the state.Aliyu said the federal, states and local governments in the country, in addition to individuals and organisations, gave financial and material assistance to the flood victims.'A committee comprising of prominent people painstakingly ensured that victims of the flood disaster were assisted equitably,' he said.Aliyu then appealed to the Federal government to ensure that measures were adopted to prevent future flood disasters, especially since the disaster was sequel to the overflow of the Goronyo Dam located in Sokoto State.The chairman of the committee said the visit by the delegation was to work out the modalities for the distribution and resettlement of the flood victims.He said the committee would proffer solutions to future flood to the Federal Government and commended efforts made by the state to ensure prompt assistance and resettlement of the victims.
