Published by Tribune on Tue, 18 Oct 2011

PEOPLE living in Ogunranti,Ogunremi, Ogunbode, Sagbe, Pabi-Ekun, and other communities in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, have expressed their displeasure over long years of neglect of their communities by successive governments in the state. The people also wanted to know from the state government whether they are still part of the pacesetter state or not due to what they described as the non-consideration of the communities when it comes to the provision of physical infrastructure and essential amenities by the government at all levels. The people explained to Community News that they had never been treated well by the previous administrations in the state, stressing that many social amenities expected to be present in communities of where thousands of people are living, were lacking.A resident of Ogunranti village, Mr Bolaji Ayoade, said many things were lacking in Ogunranti village, ranging from good roads, primary health centre, modern school structure, market and other expected physical infrastructure. For Mrs Abigael Ajayi, she told Community News that Oyo State government has never looked towards the side of Ogunranti, Ogunremi and other villages in Lagelu Local Government Council, stressing that there was the need for the administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi to give them infrastructure facilities that would boost social and economic activities of the area.Other residents of Ogunremi, Ogunbode, Pabi-Ekun, Sagbe, among others, explained that they were tired of trekking several kilometres on untarred roads, especially when going to participate in activities outside their communities.A farmer in Sagbe village, Mr Sunday Alao, told Community News that 'life is not smooth in the area as residents often suffer to get good things of life.'In his words, 'we don't have good roads, no clinic, we don't even have good market to sell our farm produce in spite of our seriousness with farming. Bulk of the agricultural produces harvested by our farmers are rotten away because there is no good road network to transport them to big markets in Ibadan and other cities for sales. Therefore, we implored Governor Ajimobi to give us good road,' he stated.Residents of Sagbe and Pabi-Ekun also tasked the management of Lagelu Local Government Area to give them good blocks of classrooms for their children, just as they tasked the state government to give them electricity, adding that there was no rural electrification project in the village.
