Hate in the heart: A discourse on forced relations

Published by Tribune on Tue, 18 Oct 2011

HAVE you ever stopped to think why some people just hate you so much' It is because you have what they do not, and will never, have. Envy is as old as the Garden of Eden, where Cain killed Abel. They were not from the same father, but you can only see that through revelation. This essay will be like fire: it will take sleep away from the wicked. Some people claim to love you so much, they spend days proclaiming their goodness; how really nice they are, how thoughtful and so on---but their action speaks only of cruel hatred. They are murderers like Cain, although they hold no knives. Murder is in their heart; it is the opportunity that is not just there yet. I do not believe in putting a baby and a snake in a crib and speaking of love; someone will come to harm soon. In life you must select; you will turn out an utter fool if you want to be considered nice by everyone. You want to be considered nice by everyone' Then you will die in agony. There is hate in the workplace, in school, in the market, on the street, and, sadly, even in bed. I care less whether you believe this, but one woman actually pressed hot iron into her sleeping husband's back, in the town called Ikorodu, early in the 1990s. Hate in the heart. The man did not die, I heard. It is the same everywhere. A person will get to wherever God Almighty has sent them, and one of the greatest errors you can commit is to hate a wo (man) under divine sanction.Your life will be a total waste. You will die of thirst within an ocean. As they say in Yoruba, 'even the person who sleeps by the oro tree has not got oro to eat, and you say you will come at dawn'' It will be a wasted effort. The Israelis will soon build their temple, assisted by their Saudi brothers after they have taken back all their land, according to the Word of God. But how many people can see that now' They have been blinded by the old hatred. The old envy. It is their dessert. But remember, Thus Saith the Lord can never fail. When someone loves you, they do not have to proclaim it to the skies. When you make a show of loving someone (like the so-called born-again prostitutes and thugs who proclaim their love of Jesus in multimedia), chances are that you absolutely do not have the slightest love for the person. Those who really love you do not have to say it every minute, and even when they say seemingly rough things like 'You are taking a very foolish step.' you do not take offence because you know they speak from a plain heart. On the other hand, when some sweet-talking little devil says something considerably less harsh, you get very displeased, though you may hide your feelings, because you know they speak from a heart full of smoke. They love you no more than the bulldog out there, but they would let you understand that they are not as bad as some people might tell you they are, that you should reconsider your stance. I look at such people and keep a decent distance.Have you met these kind of human beings lately' They're the ones who engage in what I call ebe ika (cruel apology) in Yoruba. They would make a show of apologising for their antagonism, then go straightaway to repeat the same wickedness they have always perpetrated. They will not change, and if you have any common sense, you should not trust the devil. Why do so many people die of heart-ache' Because they go out of their way to try to reform the devil. The devil will not be reformed: he will kill you.Every gift brings its stretch of sorrows, and I have had to learn the hard way in my few years. You might spend long university hours giving tutorials to people who would otherwise not have sailed through, people who could not write a decent paragraph, but they would still ask their crazy questions:'Who does he think he is' Is he the only one in this class' His dengepose is just too much ... ' Some would even boast the temerity to proclaim that their tutor did not have as much clothing as they thought a guy should have, but of course they were willing to borrow his library of current literature on any topic. Some people just would not appreciate you no matter what you do. They are serpent seed, and must do the work of their father the devil, who was a murderer from the beginning. Some jesters call themselves an association of believers, but are blinder than a bat. How can you put those who worship the dead, those who crack coconut at a junction and those who believe only in the power of prayer-together and make unity out of that' True unity is based on perfect agreement; harmony is the devil's compromise. That is why the Pentecostal, a coated hypocrite and perpetrator of abortion, hates the Cherub, a modem babalawo/ dibia, with a passion. Please notice that I am only exercising my freedom of speech; don't get angry. Here too there is murder in the heart, the old hatred. And this world speaks of love, the love of Cain.Awolaja is on the Politics Desk of the Nigerian Tribune.
