Eguavoen, Green begin Europe tour tomorrow over players' release

Published by Guardian on Tue, 18 Oct 2011

COACH of the national U-23 team, Austin Eguavoen, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee Chairman, Chris Green, will tomorrow begin a tour of European countries to plead for the release of players for the forthcoming African U-23 Championship slated for Morocco.According to a release by the team's media officer, Arafat Aliu, the week-long visit will see the duo visiting club directors over the release of players for the championship, which serves as London 2012 Olympic Games qualifier.Aliu said: 'Considering the limited number of days available to the coach, he would not be able to visit all the club directors. In any case, he has already established contact with those that time would not allow him to see.'According to Aliu, 'letters have already been sent to the clubs in Ukraine, Turkey and Israel as coach Austin Eguavoen had earlier established contact with club directors of Olympics team's players in these countries.'The duo will arrive in London tomorrow and meet with officials of Sheffield Wednesday, which has Daniel Chima Uchechi as one of its stars, according to the schedule released by the media officer. On October 20, they will move over to Holland for discussions with officials of VVV Venlo, which has Musa Ahmed, Alex Nkume and Okechukwu Uchebo, while the next day will be the turn of PSV Eindhoven to receive the Nigerian team for discussions over Rabiu Ibrahim's release. The team will also tour Germany, Spain, Italy and Israel before returning to Nigeria on October 26.Aliu also revealed that the officials have lined up four friendly games for the team as it continues preparations for the African championship. He revealed that the team would meet Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan, Shuttle Sports International of Lagos, Westerlo Football Club of Lagos, which is managed by Olympic gold medallist, Dosu Joseph, and 36 Lions, also of Lagos.
